This sci-fi photo was taken in Lisbon, at the Oriente subway (metro) station (above which is a train station). The tube in the center of the photo is an elevator which leads down to the subway station. I got this weird effect by zooming in as I took the photo - I set a long shutter speed and zoomed my lens quickly. It reminds me of special effects in science fiction movies such as Star Trek. I can't help but hear Jean-Luc Picard in the backround saying 'Engage'.
