Cumulus congestus

 I'm not a climatographer but from my understanding these are Cumulus congestus clouds, an intermediate stage between cumulus mediocris and cumulonimbus, according to Wikipedia. To put it a different way, this is the buildup before they become cumulonimbus clouds which bring heavy rain. The photo was taken pretty late with the sun nearly set, which is why the hills at the bottom are already in shadow while the tops of the clouds still enjoy a few last rays of sunlight.

Last rays on the Karavanke

Took this a couple of weeks ago - after a few days of rain the clouds started to part, just in time for the setting sun to light up the Karavanke mountains. The one on the left (towards the west) is Brana, on the right (partly obscured by clouds) is Planjava (whose west wall I climbed years ago), between them is the Kamnik saddle.
 

Self portrait - sysadmin

 

As I've said a few times, self portraits are quite forgiving as the subject usually does as they're told. This was taken at work one late summer afternoon.

Breginjski kot

 

This snap of the valley Breginjski kot (Breginj Combe when translated to English) was taken during a bike ride from Kobarid towards the Nadiža river (taken with an iPhone). We spent a week long holiday camping near Kobarid and did quite a bit of light mountain biking.

Firefighting helicopter

This was taken from my balcony recently, there was a series of small forest fires in the woods nearby. I've since walked by that area and the fires were contained pretty quickly. On a side note, this photo was taken with a 40 year old lens (mounted on a new Fujifilm camera).

Beast mode

Recently visited an off-road racing event held in a large open quarry. I really enjoyed the day and crawling all over the huge open area - the cars were obviously fun to watch as well.

Rainbow

Ran across a nice rainbow while out on a bike ride - this was around Lake Cerknica, looking towards the north. The photo was taken with an iPhone, pulled hastily from a pocket. I've ridden quite a bit in this area, both to the top of mount Slivnica (it's off shot to the left) and around the forests of Javornik Hills (behind us to the south). The first is nice but can be quite crowded (it's a favorite easy hiking destination), the second is kind of boring with no mountain bike paths, mainly just logging roads.
