The golden road

Taken at Rašica one late afternoon, just before sunset. I was driving home when the sun started to go down and the light became so beautiful. I had this shot in my mind, I drove directly to this curve in the road.

Bird of paradise

Yes, I realise this isn't a bird, but this flower, the Strelitzia Reginae, is commonly called the Bird of Paradise flower (also the crane lily). Taken in the gardens around the Villa Borghese in Rome last spring, these flowers were growing at one of the fountains in the park. They are originally from South Africa, where they can be found in the wild.

Independence day

I've had this photo lying around for a while, and since Slovenia celebrated its independence day yesterday, it seem like the perfect time to post it. I would have done this yesterday, but I spent the entire day in Venice :-)

The pitch

Another baseball one. The guy in the white t-shirt who has just thrown the ball is called the pitcher, since the kids are pretty young, one of the coaches does the pitching. If they did it themselves, it would be much slower and more boring, this way, there's more action for everyone involved. The dark lines over the photo are from the fence I was shooting through. The longer the lens, the less you notice things which are directly in front of you. With a really long telephoto lens, you can shoot through a fence (tree branches, whatever) and it won't show up on the photo. Yay for physics!

Through the clouds

I came upon this freaky looking scene on a walk along Ljubljana's castle hill. It was quite cloudy, and that's the sun trying to poke through. Most cameras set on auto tend to brighten up a scene like this, so you usually have to use exposure compensation (or manual settings) to capture it as it is.

Stupid settings

I found this in my archive - it was taken over a year ago at some picnic. As we've often mentioned on this blog, both Žiga and I prefer photographing on film. Digital cameras have so many settings, you spend more time playing around in the menu than you do taking photos.

Darkness falls

Late evening, sometime last summer, a crescent moon over Ljubljana's Castle. Those dots below the castle are lights put up around the castle hill.

Taken at a baseball game not long ago, this kid is from my brother's team - the Zajčki (which translates to rabbits :-) ).

Work of art

Žiga standing next to a photograph of his at a photography exhibition held at Ljubljana's Celica Hostel. His photo is the one on the right - the two buildings. This shot was taken on black and white film.

Snow shoveller

A photo of my brother, taken this winter while he was shovelling snow. He looks to me like some Afghan tribesman. Taken on film.

Something important

This is a portrait of my brother writing down some important message, as you can see on his serious face :)
Taken with 50 1.8 with available light from his mobile phone.
